I Never Promised You A Rose Garden
Growing up I remember this song

It is funny how often we have expectations
about how life is supposed to be,
as if it is supposed to be a rose garden.
Life is more like a roller coaster,
then a rose garden.
There is nothing that promises us
life will be easy or simple.
So much of our suffering comes from
our expectations of life being like a rose garden.
There may be rose garden moments,
but not all of life is like that.
We will have ups and downs.
easy times and challenging times.
What makes us appreciate the beauty and aroma of roses
is that we do not smell or have them all the time.
They are not normal,
they are special.
What if we let go of our expectations
about what life is supposed to be like?
what people are supposed to be like?
When we let go of our expectations,
we let go of unnecessary suffering in our lives
and provide ourselves with more opportunities
to spend time in our rose garden.
