In an Instant

January 21, 2025 Sharon Jacobson

In an Instant

In an instant,
your world can change.
I know this from my own life.
In an instant,
I felt a pain shoot down my leg
and the next instant was numbness.
Each day reminds me that
in an instant,
I can find the power to love my adversaries.
I can be given the power to accept my failures.
I can grieve loss.
I can endure torture.
I can avail myself
in any instant
of the power and grace
that flows to and through me
from the Ultimate.
In an instant,
I can find peace in the moment,
I can look for the goodness.
I can live like an overcomer.
I can transform my perspective.
In an instant,
I can make a difference
even if I cannot change the world,
I can start with me
and the person I see in the mirror.
In an instant,
I can make a difference
and make this world a better place
one instant at a time.

Learn to Love

January 22, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

Learn to Love

I remember the year
we had voles in our yard.
The rodent specialist gave us a few options:
He could use traps that would kill them,
or traps so he could move them
or we could come to love them.
So we learned to love them
and then they disappeared
as mysteriously as they had appeared.
we all have things we have to
learn to love.
When you can’t fix it,
or change it
or get rid of it
just learn to love it.
When you do
things change.
It is not the situation,
it is you.
when we learn to love
we open our hearts and minds
to experience everything a new.
Just for today,
learn to love

What Did I Do?

August 1, 2023 Sharon Jacobson

What Did I Do?

Having lost 4 friends in the last week,
I have been thinking about my own death.
I even saw my own funeral.
Recently I was challenged to think about
what others might say
when I died.
It made me think about
what I have done.
How am I living my life?
What did I do?
What am I doing?
I may not be able to
do anything about
the legacy I have created
up to now,
but I can begin now to
create the legacy
I want to leave behind.
So that when I die,
others will say
they remember me
for always being loving,
positive,
inspiring,
motivating and kind.
They will say
I made time for them.
I respected their intelligence.
They will say I was an overcomer.
I believed in my own dreams
and I worked hard to achieve them.
What did I do?
I loved,
I listened,
I cared,
I believed,
I wrote from my heart.
I taught how to apply
theory to reality.
I was present,
I gave from my heart,
I was who I was created to be,
and encouraged others to
do the same.
this is what I did
and what I will continue to do.
What do you want others to say about you
and what you did?

Seeing the Extraordinary

August 20, 2018 Sharon Jacobson
see it.jpg

Having been pretty much unable to leave my home the last seven years, other then for drs appointments, has given me a different view of the world. When I roll down my driveway and get to venture into the world, things overwhelm me. Today, for example, I got to see someone I have not seen in 8 years. As I rolled into the bus, taking me to the oncologists office, I could feel the excitement surging through me. I felt like a little kid. I was going somewhere and nobody was going with me. It was just me and the world.

As I sat at the café before my appointment, I could hear people complaining about how they had to leave the house, the traffic on the drive, the people who had pissed them off on their way there, the person who tried to scam them and of course the overpriced food at the café.  I sat and listened and remembered a day when leaving the house and going somewhere was just what you did. I didn’t think much about it, I didn’t see it as a blessing. It was just life.
