Silence

January 27, 2025 Sharon Jacobson

Silence

Silence,
it is one of the 8 nouns I used to describe me
in an exercise with my students.
Why silence, they ask.
thinking it is because I am quiet
or just don’t like noise.
Silence
is so much more.
Silence is a process.
it enables me to journey to a space
away from all distractions.
Silence
brings me to
a spiritual sauna
where my senses
bathe in the silence.
It is where I hear the symphony
I can only hear in the silence.
I can see the artistry and creativity
I can only see in the silence.
I can taste the goodness in life
I can only taste in the silence.
I can smell scents
I can only smell in the silence.
I can embrace all
I can only embrace in the silence.
Silence
is that space
where all is released and removed
and I am
cleansed, rejuvenated, renewed,
and prepared to live outside of the
silence.

Grilled Cheese Grace

August 23, 2022 Sharon Jacobson

Grilled Cheese Grace

I am not sure I know anyone that
does not like grilled cheese sandwiches.
There is nothing like an ooey gooey grilled cheese sandwich.
Some people like a single slice of cheese
and others, like me, want more.
Regardless there is the buttery goodness
and the gooeyness of the cheese
and the warmth when it first comes off the stove.
As I was making some last night,
I realized that grilled cheese sandwiches
are like God’s grace.
Grace is like the butter being spread on the outside,
and sometimes the inside of the bread too.
It is like the cheese being piled on the sandwich.
Sometimes it is just that one slice of cheese,
other times it is this crazy mixture of toppings,
plopped between the slices of bread
with a sense of joy and engagement.
When it is done
the golden brown gooeyness
screams come taste me,
enjoy me,
and know you are loved.

100% of God our donations go to support our ability to provide low and no cost offerings to those seeking to grow and evolve spiritually.

Paradise

March 16, 2020 Sharon Jacobson

I remember a Rabbi once saying
Sit in Paradise when you read,
when you study Torah,
when you pray, and
anytime you seek to be
with God

Paradise has always been
hard for me to envision, to see,
to experience,
so it has felt as if there is a barrier
to being in the deepest state
with God

Paradise now
for me is not anything special, but
those everyday moments that
bring me to a place of peace,
joy, and
openness.

Paradise
is that feeling of being
wrapped in God’s loving arms
like a warm, cozy blanket.
It is the smell of freshly mowed grass.
It is the tastes,
touches,
sounds,
feelings, and
appearances,
which bring me to a space
of closeness and intimacy
with God
