Dear God,
I am not even sure what to say today. Other than please forgive me. I am just going to start with that. I have been intentional about my thoughts, words, and deeds on so many levels. However, today was one of those moments when I was intentional about what came out of my mouth, but not what went into my mouth or through my head. So please forgive me for not really thinking about why I was craving something fatty. Forgive me for not turning my back on the custard when I realized it was not the frozen yogurt, I had originally thought it was. Forgive me for not being intentional enough about my feelings, thoughts and actions.
Some days I am so much better at being intentional then others. So rather than beat myself up for what I did today, I am going to forgive myself now and begin the practice of intentionality again. So forgive me, so that I might also remember how healing it is for others when I forgive them for something they did not do to me.
I remember learning this years ago when I read The Gift of Forgiveness. At first, I did not understand why don Miguel Ruiz had this gentleman go from person to person seeking forgiveness from someone for something he had not done to them. Then it all began to make sense. So often we are not mindful of when we need to forgive ourselves or others. When we ask for forgiveness from a stranger or someone we do not even think we need to apologize to, we are contributing to the healing in the world. There may be someone we would like to forgive us, but either have not, cannot or are not ready to seek forgiveness from. Being able to ask for forgiveness helps us to liberate ourselves from that which we are holding on to. At the same time, the person to whom we are asking forgiveness, may also be holding on to something against someone. When I humble myself and seek forgiveness I am freeing them, I am freeing myself and I am setting us both free.
I know you are not a stranger. If anything you know me better than any human being ever will. However, I come to you tonight asking forgiveness for all I have done to harm myself, others or you this day. Thank you for loving me enough to help set me free.
Sharon
