The Whole Salmon Story

August 27, 2015 Sharon Jacobson

Have you ever seen a commercial that just sticks with you because it is making a message that transcends the product it is selling, or attempting to sell to consumers? I have a few, but one of them for me is a commercial for Wolf stoves, a top of the line appliance company. Years ago, I saw this commercial, where this “spirit,” was watching a woman prepare an ambitious meal in her apparently new Wolf stove. He was trying to place doubts in her mind that she could prepare what they wanted one to believe was a challenging dish to prepare. Eventually, her faith in herself and her confidence in her abilities caused him to leave and she continued on with the preparation of her meal.

The point of this commercial seemed to be that with this top of the line stove you could prepare dishes you could not cook without it. After all, the stove itself was so amazing. However, for me it was a reminder to have faith in one’s self and one’s abilities. So often we continue to hypnotize ourselves into doubting our abilities and filling our thoughts with negative self-talk. When we are intentional and mindful of our thoughts, we practice blocking out the doubt and focus on lack which limits us not just in the kitchen, but in life.

Working on ignoring the voice attempting to plant seeds of doubt in us is not easy. However, with practice, we grow in our faith in ourselves and our Higher Power. Our hearing shifts from the voices of negativity, to the voices of affirmation and encouragement.

Whatever it is you want to create whether it is in the kitchen or in some other aspect of your life, the hardest work is not the doing it, but the unlearning of all the messages which are now obstacles to your achieving your dream. So today, dare to dream of the life you want and then begin the hard work of removing the lies from your life, so you can achieve it. Before you know it you will be like the woman in the Wolf commercial and that “voice” will be gone.
