I had to write about the Deep Covered Baker this week. Some of us call it The Magic Pot because what happens inside the baker when it is covered is magic. It does things like allow you to microwave a pork tenderloin in 10 minutes or a whole chicken in 30 minutes. There are entire lists of one pot meals you can make in it in 30 minutes or less and you can use it in your oven and microwave.
Because of something that happened in my life today, the Deep Covered Baker has taken on new meaning for me. It has become a symbol for me of what happens when I draw on my faith in my Higher Power. It is like magic happens. For example, how today when I was in need of an epipen, I learned there is a nationwide shortage. No pharmacy around me had one. I was going to have to delay starting a new medication. The tonight in the magic of my faith pot, the doorbell rang and a pharmacy I have never heard of nor am connected to bought me an epipen in a brown paper bag. We do not always have to understand the magic which happens in our Deep Covered Baker, we just have to appreciate the magic
There are features to our stoneware which make our Deep Covered Baker an important part of any kitchen, like the size. It holds 12 ½ cups which allows it to hold anything from a whole chicken to a one pot family casserole. It can hold a lot. What happens is that our stoneware has amazing heat retention, so you can quick foods at a lower temperature or for shorter amount s of time. The stoneware draws the moisture away from food so baked goods turn out light and crispy and puts the juices back into the meats to keep them juicy and tender. What happens in this pot is Magic. It Is not something you see or necessarily understand, you just know it happened. It is like the experience I shared with you about what happened to me tonight. I cannot explain how it happened, I just know it did and I am going to be healthier because of it.
One of the other things I love about our stoneware is that it does not retain oils, odors or flavors. I have used pots in my past which smelled like whatever I had cooked in it last. Our stoneware does not do that, which for me is amazing. So often you can tell what human beings have been through by some of our behaviors, Our stoneware is nothing like us as human beings, no matter what has been made in it, it retains no odors. The only evidence you see of its life is the seasoning of the stoneware, which just enhances the abilities of the stoneware. It reminds me of how we are seasoned in our own lives to be of greater service to others.
