Let it be!

Yesterday was one of those days when I realized the importance of remembering that something is what it is, nothing more or nothing less. Sometimes we just need to let it be and not sit in judgment of a person or a situation. I often talk about how so much of our suffering comes from others not meeting our expectations. Yesterday, I became aware that I had held on to an expectation for seven years that I did not even know I had. It was not until the expectation was not met that I realized I had been holding on to this expectation for years. The words I was given during my prayer last night was “let it be!”

Waking up to the words “let it be!” sent me to look at the lyrics from that old Beatle song and throughout the song is the reminder that in the midst of all situations in our life, the wisdom of the Ultimate will come and remind us to just let it be. We do not all see things or understand things in the same way. When it is someone’s time to see or understand something then he or she will. In the meantime, we just need to let it be.

People are who they are and they do, think, feel, and respond in ways that are uniquely them. How we respond is uniquely us. Sometimes we expect others to respond as we would respond but we are not them. So we just need to let it be and understand that we each have our own lessons to learn, in our own time, and on our own path. So let it be!

There are times when our encounters with others may cause us to lose balance temporarily. That does not make either person right or wrong, it is God’s way of helping us in our own journey and maintaining awareness of what God is doing for us in that moment. So let it be!

When we invest time and energy judging others and trying to prove that we are right and they are wrong, then we are actually judging ourselves. When we do then we are not making the best us of our time here on earth. Rather then spending time working on what we were created to do and be in in our lives, we are judging others and ourselves. So let it be!

None of us knows what others should be doing or how they should be doing it. So rather then focus on how other people should be living their lives, we should focus on us doing the best we can in our own. We do not have to wait for Mother Mary to come to us in times of trouble to tell us “Let it be!”
