Parental Questions

Parental Questions

My parents left this realm
more than 20 years ago
but the questions they asked
my entire life
continue to live with me today.
There were three questions.
The would both ask me
what did you learn today?
Then we would share what we learned.
That was the easiest of the questions
because we could just reflect
on what we learned.
We could talk about subjects,
names, dates, facts and stuff.
Then came the real questions.
My mother would look at me and ask,
what did you ask today?
She wasn’t as concerned about what I learned,
as she was that I had learned to question,
to ask,
to want to know more than
what we were being taught.
She wanted me to learn to question and think,
and so her question was a reminder to ask.
Then was my father
who had his own question.
What did you fail at today?
It was not okay to just do well,
to pass and to succeed.
He wanted us to be willing to fail.
We were to learn to try,
to move beyond the limits
we or others had placed.
We were to be brave enough to try
that we were willing to fail.
I think he got that from his mother
who would tell me that
she who fails to fail,
fails to succeed.
To this day I encourage others to do the same:
learn, ask, and fail

Imagine

October 12, 2020 Sharon Jacobson

How often do we miss
the messages the Universe
is sending us
because we cannot
see how things can
possibly be coming together
in a way that would change
the way we understand things.
When we dare to imagine,
we dare to discover a way of learning,
a way of understanding,
a way of seeing the Divine
and the ways of communicating
with us that were
invisible to us.
When we dare to imagine,
we can sense presence
of the one who is answering
our prayers
in ways that defy our own
understanding.
Dare to imagine
how the Divine is
speaking to and
through you.
You were given the power
to imagine;
use it.
