Nourishing

September 24, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

Nourishing

Have you ever been caught in the middle
of an emotional, mental and spiritual storm?
Those times when you and or someone in your family
is facing challenges, sometimes multiple ones
all at the same time.
Those times when you just want to scream or cry
because it is what you do when you feel frustrated
not just by what happened,
but all the things that happen because of it.
It is those times where what you need more than anything else
is to feel like you are being held in the arms of the Ultimate
and rocked into comfort,
to feel the love and support of others.
That time when a simple act of kindness from others
is so amazing humbling,
your heart overflows with love
Then it comes and you are reminded
it is coming back from the love you gave.
When you are reminded the love you planted
has taken root in the world and spread.
We nourish others and they nourish us,
this is what love is about.
It is about nourishing all we encounter,
knowing when we are going through,
someone will nourish us.

Hold Yourself

September 16, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

Hold Yourself

Do you ever have one of those moments
when you just need to be held.
You just want to be held in your parent’s arms
and rocked and comforted
and know I was loved.
I am too big now to sit on anyone’s lap
and am bigger then some people’s laps.
but sometimes I still have one of those days
when I need to be held,
and rocked and reminded that I am loved.
Sometimes I can ask my wife to hug me
and that helps,
but there is something about being rocked and held,
that is more comforting then must a hug.
Now, when I need that loving care,
I stop where ever I am
I wrap my arms around me,
as tightly as I can.
then I rock myself
until I feel loved,
and I feel the arms of the Ultimate
holding me
rocking me
and reminding me
I am loved,
We all have those moments
when we need to feel loved.
Next time you do,
just hold yourself and rock.

Gifting

Gifting

What did you get for Christmas?
That is what I was asked.
We no longer exchange gifts on holidays
because we gift throughout the year.
Every day,
is a holiday and
a day to treat others and ourselves.
We all deserve little rewards
we do not need to wait for a specific day,
we can reward ourselves any day.
I love giving to others,
but I have to remember that I too am worthy.
Just like my gifts to others can brighten their day,
treating myself can brighten mine.
It’s the little things like
a plate of lox and cream cheese,
having a good cry,
laughing my ass off,
or a day to sleep in.
Rewarding myself for
what I have accomplished
and what I have done
is important and healthy.
If you get a gift from me
know it is because I was thinking of you
and wanted to brighten your day.
It is how I keep the season of giving
going all year round
for you and for me.

Crying

August 7, 2023 Sharon Jacobson

Crying

Crying,
I have happy tears,
angry tears,
sad tears,
grateful tears, and
a way of crying for just about every emotion.
Crying,
for me,
is a way to release the emotions
and make room for what is coming next
It is like the rain
before the sun.
The earth needs both to grow.
Sometimes we cry,
so like a baby,
others can feed us.
Crying
is like water for my soul.
it keeps my life fresh
and allows my other gifts to shine and glow.
Crying
is what keeps me humble
and growing.
it is what keeps me humble
and human.
Crying
is a gift
from the ultimate.
It is Crying

Crying,

I am so grateful for you and
thank you.

Sabbath

January 30, 2023 Sharon Jacobson

Sabbath

Do you still honor the Sabbath?
You should take the Sabbath off and rest.
I love it when people tell me how
I should spend time with the Ultimate
and when.
When I was young,
we would light the Shabbat candles on Friday evening
and go to Shul.
It was a tradition
until my parents stopped going.
Then I was taught to not work on Sundays,
which is hard to do when you are leading worship.
Sabbath for me is not so much about the day,
but about the time I intentionally spend
with the Ultimate.
Time in prayer,
meditation,
time spent in silence
journaling,
reading,
and reflecting.
The quality of the time,
not the day
or the quantity.
The quality of the time
I spend with the one
who I make time for
in the midst of all my days,
no matter how busy,
because I make that time a priority.

100% of God our donations go to support our ability to provide low and no cost offerings to those seeking to grow and evolve spiritually.

The Work Begins

March 11, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

The work is not in my reading.
The work begins when
I am done.
When I sit with the ideas,
reflect on them,
decide on whether or not
to let them in my heart
and nurture me

The work begins when
I put the book down.
When I reflect on the ideas,
the teachings,
the gifts,
and the inspiration.

It doesn’t matter if it is
fiction or non fiction,
sacred or secular,
academic or non-academic,
there is something for me
to think about
and thus the work begins
when my eyes are done.

That is when my heart works.
Sometimes it is about what grade
most reflects what my student
attempted to show me.
Sometimes the work is for me;
it is about me releasing a belief,
changing a behavior,
being willing to grow and evolve.
Even as I read my own work,
the work begins
when my eyes are done
and I open my heart
and continue the journey.

Yearning for Bountiful

November 7, 2017 Sharon Jacobson
bountiful.jpg

As I have been thinking about yearning the last week, I have come to the realization that this is not about renouncing or pursuing our desires, that which we yearn for in our lives. Rather, it is about understanding our yearnings and the lessons behind it. As I did, I was reminded of a film I saw almost 30 years ago now, called The Trip to Bountiful.

In this film, Mrs. Watts, a sensitive old woman living in the city with her son and his wife, develops a yearning to visit her family home, now long abandoned, in Bountiful, Texas. Her daughter-in-law interprets this wish as sentimental senility, and she convinces her husband to thwart the old lady's attempts to take a train or bus to visit her long-abandoned homestead. Mrs. Watts expresses the elemental nature of her longing plainly: 'I haven't had my hands in dirt in twenty years. My hands feel the need of dirt.

Nurturing Romance

September 21, 2016 Sharon Jacobson

This month we have been looking at various ways of nurturing ourselves and others.  Recently, I began thinking about the importance of nurturing my relationship with my wife. It is so easy for life to take over and displace the deeper purpose of the relationships. There is always something to do around the house. There is always something that needs to be managed, bills to pay, chores to be done, etc. All of that is important. At the same time, it is important that we nurture the loving nature of the relationship we have with our spouse to keep it alive and growing. How do we keep the romance alive?

Romance is more than just dinner by candle light, soft music and flowers. It is about the attention and feeling we create in the relationship and bring to each other. It is about what we do to affirm our love and gratitude for the person who has come to share our life with us. Romance is about the intentional time we take away from all the things we have to do in life, to just spend quality time with the one we love. It is a time where we get to focus on each other without all the interruptions of daily life, the computer beeping, the phone ringing, etc
