Great Bones

August 29, 2026 Sharon Jacobson

Great Bones

“This place has great bones.”
I remember hearing that once
when we were looking for a home.
Great bones,
was supposed to distract me
from everything that was wrong
and needed to be repaired.
Great bones
was supposed to distract me
from all the costs involved in
making the rest of the house look great.
Great bones,
also reminds me that my bones
will far outlast the rest of me.
My great bones,
are who you see in my deepest core,
they are the truths that endure it all
and the foundation of my faith.
My great bones
are my inner strength.
they are my resilience and conviction.
My great bones
are those that keep me alive,
constantly growing and evolving
in the midst of the
deserts life brings me to
and through.
My great bones,
are the gifts
I have from my ancestors,
those I have known,
and those I have never met.
My great bones,
are great
because they are
what I have gotten from
and keep me connected to
the Ultimate.
Like that house,
I have great bones.
and the Ultimate is always
working to help me see
the great bones in others
and for them to see
the great bones in me.

I Didn't Know

April 27, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

I didn’t know

You are such a trooper.
You are so strong.
You are such an inspiration to so many.
I am not sure where all these affirmations came from yesterday,
but they flowed into my life
from random people
in random places.
Then I kept hearing Whitney Houston
singing I didn’t know my own strength.
it made me realize that I never think about
how strong I am.
I just focus on getting through.
I just face the challenges
and I find what I need to get through.|
I call on my ancestors.
I remember my father saying
you are like a timex watch,
you take a licking and keep on ticking.
Do I even know my own strength?
The last several years have been filled with challenges,
and sometimes I get tired,
but I know I have to move through it.
As Whitney said,
I may tumble,
but I do not crumble.
I just move through each day
one moment at a time
and focus on where I am heading,
not what I have to overcome.
I don’t focus on the obstacles.
I focus on being an overcomer.
My soul is what reminds me
that the Ultimate will bring me through.
With my faith, I can make it through.
I may not see my strength,

Until others point it out to me.
I just knew, as the song says,
I was not meant to break.
I have always been meant to overcome.
I didn’t’ know, my own strength,
but I am beginning to understand and own it.
Soon,
I will know my own strength.
