Inspiration

December 1, 2023 Sharon Jacobson

Inspiration

What inspires you?
That is what she asked me
and honestly, I know and I don’t.
Sometimes I feel as if the poem was just given to me
and other times it feels like I have gone through
a long and difficult labor.
There are times that the inspiration just comes to me
from a photo, an image, a quote, or a question.
Sometimes it seems to come from within,
from a memory that lived deep inside,
until now
and then like in the delivery room
I get into this spiritual position
and there is pushing and breathing
and ultimately it is born.
Other times,
it floats through my imagination,
begging for me to grab hold and
do something with it.
if not,
it is gone
and I back to waiting
for another source of
inspiration.

Being An Artist

October 7, 2022 Sharon Jacobson

Being An Artist

I love thinking of myself as an artist.
Being an artist
requires you to let go, let loose and just be.
when I write,
which is my medium,
I don’t think about my words,
I just write.
I am never sure what words will get typed,
but it is in the uncertainty,
in the midst of the journey
that the words come
and flow through me
like water in a stream.
it just comes, sometimes slower then others,
but they come.
Each day I have to give myself permission
to be an artist,
to say yes,
to let go
and to let the Ultimate
use me as the brush
with which it paints.
I may feel like an artist, but
it is more like I am the brush.

I am a poet

March 8, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

I started dreaming about
writing poetry again.
Then the critiques began
about my rhythm
topics,
and marketability.
Those messages are not of God.

God’s inspiration
Gave me eyes that could hear, and
ears that can see.
I learned to stay open.
I learned to watch life
I began listening to my heart
and soul
and the inspiration
which came to me.

As I opened my senses
my imagination flowed
with an uncertainty and
excitement I cannot explain.
what I do know is that
I am a poet.

Dancing with God

February 22, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

Life is like a dance.
God is my partner.
God makes suggestions
and I respond
it is a conversation
between the two of us
which is all about us

God is skilled,
if I have faith
then I do not have to guess
I just have to follow.

God’s timing is perfect.
so I just have to follow,
without doubt,
without fear,
without the desire to
change the dance.

Dancing with God
is about trust.
It is about
releasing anticipation.
It is about moving with
and matching the movements.
it is about maintaining balance
in my relationship with God

It is about following the signals
which God is giving me.
It is also about knowing that
God never forces me to follow.
That choice is always up to me.

If you can Imagine it, then

February 28, 2016 Sharon Jacobson

This past month I have done so much thinking about imagination. I thought I had reflected on it from so many perspectives, but this week I have come to realize that I had yet to imagine the amazing people who would come into my life and touch me in ways that I could not even imagine.

So often, we hear about all the hate, violence and fear in this world. We hear about people who do things to others that cause our hearts to be heavy. It is so easy to allow the news to help us envision a world that is negative, hate filled, and beyond repair. This week, however, has served as a living testimony of the world I think you imagined when you first created us. I have experienced unconditional love and support from people I know as well as people I have never met or barely know.

The Gift of Imagination

February 19, 2016 Sharon Jacobson

I want to thank you for the gift of imagination. It comes in handy when I face a situation that is not working or not working as well as I would like it to. It is at those moments that I remember my former supervisor telling me “if you come to me with a problem, then also come to me with a solution.” Identifying the problem did not call on me to have an imagination, but coming up with a solution often times did. It meant I thought through all the logical responses and solutions to the problem and then it meant that I thought outside the box and came up with innovative ways to make something work.

My friend Eileen tells me this is one of my gifts, the ability to think outside the box. I am not sure I even realize when I am doing this, the ideas just flow out.

It’s just my imagination

February 16, 2016 Sharon Jacobson

So I woke up this morning hearing The Temptations singing Just my Imagination, at least the chorus in my head. I can’t remember the rest of the song, just the chorus. Oh how my imagination has always run away with me. Since I was a little girl I have had an imagination. Maybe that is why I like Anabelle, a 4 year old I met at a vending event I met a week or so ago. Her father kept telling me she had an overactive imagination and that it got her into trouble.

My imagination did as well.  I remember the first time I got into trouble for my imagination. I was 6 and I remember feeling like what I had to bring to show and tell was nothing compared to what other people were bringing to show and tell. Then one day something awesome happened.
