Hungry

September 30, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

Hungry

Have you ever been hungry,
but no food seems to satisfy you,
not even your favorite comfort food?
Have you ever been so tired and stressed
that all you want to do is cry?
Those are the moments
when I need God the most,
the times that what I am really hungry for
is God’s love and understanding.
What I really need is to have a good cry
and let the stress, anxiety and frustration go.
It is in those moments that need to remember the basic
to let go and let God.
I need to remember that in my hunger for God,
comes a fullness,
no physical food can give me.
I need to remember that
it in my most vulnerable moments with God
that I feel most at peace.
I need to remember that
it is in the depths of poverty
that I feel the richness of being
the royal princess I am.
It is in these moments that I remember a song
let the weak say they are strong
and let the poor say they are rich.
My strength, my food, my peace,
all of it comes from my hunger -
my hunger for a deep and abiding relationship
with the one who hears and answers
my prayers
and keeps me from feeling hungry.

Wealthy

December 10, 2021 Sharon Jacobson

Wealth

I used to think I wanted to be wealthy.
What I meant was that I wanted to have lots of money
and own things
Now, it’s not that I do not want to have wealth,
but that I know my wealth no longer comes
from what I own,
but what I have.
In some respects, I am struggling,
working three jobs to pay my bills.
At the same time, I am incredibly wealthy.
I am surrounded by people who love me unconditionally.
I have a roof over my head,
clothes on my back,
food in my pantry,
and doctors who always work to help me
stay healthy.
As I stop each day and count my blessings,
I am reminded of the riches
which fill my life
and how wealthy I truly am.
I may never be on some list
for the wealthiest people on earth,
but I have a wealth which comes
from the Ultimate
and I never have to worry about
losing.
I am grateful to be so wealthy and
to be on this journey with others
who are also wealthy.
