Hungry

September 30, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

Hungry

Have you ever been hungry,
but no food seems to satisfy you,
not even your favorite comfort food?
Have you ever been so tired and stressed
that all you want to do is cry?
Those are the moments
when I need God the most,
the times that what I am really hungry for
is God’s love and understanding.
What I really need is to have a good cry
and let the stress, anxiety and frustration go.
It is in those moments that need to remember the basic
to let go and let God.
I need to remember that in my hunger for God,
comes a fullness,
no physical food can give me.
I need to remember that
it in my most vulnerable moments with God
that I feel most at peace.
I need to remember that
it is in the depths of poverty
that I feel the richness of being
the royal princess I am.
It is in these moments that I remember a song
let the weak say they are strong
and let the poor say they are rich.
My strength, my food, my peace,
all of it comes from my hunger -
my hunger for a deep and abiding relationship
with the one who hears and answers
my prayers
and keeps me from feeling hungry.

Making the Time

August 2, 2020 Sharon Jacobson

How many times have I said
I am too busy
I am too tired
I have too much to do
I am in too much pain
I am whatever the excuse is.
The reality is that
I have to make the time
for what is important
I should never be too tired to pray
or too busy to read
or crochet
or the things which
bring me joy.
I should never be working
so much that I cannot
have time with my wife
There are always things to do
but time with family and God
and time for myself is important.
I deserve the time to write my poetry,
to read or listen to an audio book
to spend time with Zoe
to listen to the inspiration
and guidance and answers
that come from the Ultimate.
I will still get it all done,
but I am also going to
make the time
for that which I say are
priorities in my life.

Prayer

April 10, 2020 Sharon Jacobson

Insights come
at the most unexpected of times
like a virtual happy hour
and a friend’s comment about yoga.
Then I realize the world
is like my yoga mat,
not that I am doing yoga these days.
Rather that the world
is my yoga mat,
my prayer beads,
my candle,
my whatever that
inspires me to stop and pray

The world
what I see,
taste,
feel,
smell,
hear,
is my inspiration
to stop and pray.

It is the reminder
of the presence of the one
we call on by so many names
which says in the midst
of everything,
I am here with you
I am listening to your prayers
to the words of your mouth
and the meditations of your heart.

It is the reminder
that no matter where I am
or what I have
or don’t have
I can stop and pray
and spend time with the
one who created me,
transforms me
and loves me
just as I am

My Yearning

February 2, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

I sit and close my eyes
and yearn for the depth,
the closeness,
the longing to know you
and know you as completely
as you know me.

It was you who gave me the capacity to love,
to speak,
to determine,
to dream,
to hope,
to create, and
to survive.

You know me
completely
just as I yearn
to know you
with the same depth
you know me
but I don’t.

I know I will again,
perhaps not until
I am with you again
but that day will come.

Until then, I allow you
to use me,
to mold me,
to help me
become a spiritual warrior,
constantly seeking
to know the me
you created me to be

So the yearning continues
and teaches me about myself
about you
and all the other me’s you
bring into my life
who teach me and deepen
my yearning for you .
