RSVP

It doesn’t happen much anymore
that we get invited to places.
Out of sight,
out of mind.
But then it came out of the blue,
a personal invite to a birthday party
and it made us both feel so loved.
My friend felt bad that their home is not accessible,
but we honestly didn’t care
because they had asked and we felt so loved.
It wasn’t until we said we were coming
that I realized that when we rsvp coming
we make other people feel blessed.
There is a reciprocity that happens
when we rsvp.
We are blessed by the invite
and they are blessed
in the rsvp.
Realizing that when I say yes,
whether I want to go or not,
is not about me
but about letting others know
they are loved.

hospitality

Hospitality

Recently someone told me
“You are so hospitable and kind.”
They wanted to know why.
I explained that one had nothing
to do with the other.
Hospitality is not about being kind.
For me, it is about building bridges.
it is about building connections with others,
those I know and those I do not.
It is about building connections with
those we feel comfortable with and those we do not.
Hospitality is about remembering
we are all one.
It is about practicing the beatitudes.
It is about living the Golden Rule.
It is about opening my heart and
surrendering my fear.
Hospitality is about releasing that which divides us
and embracing that which unites us.
It’s not about me being kind,
it's about me being humane.

Hospitality

May 26, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

I was reminded of a video
about a young boy and an older man
who created a space
to let each other in.

That is what hospitality is about.
its about taking people
into our worlds.
Its about letting them into
our hearts, mind, souls
and saying you are welcome.

Its about breaking down barriers,
tearing down walls,
overcoming obstacles.
its about building bridges which connect us,
not walls which separate us.
its about connecting people
and hearts
one at a time.
