Entering a Complaint Free Existence: The Journey Begins

March 9, 2013 Sharon Jacobson

A few weeks ago, I ordered 30 bracelets from A Complaint Free World and they arrived yesterday. My goal was to work with this organization and begin a complaint free movement here in Rochester, NY. Well Friday, my bracelets arrived and while in my head I realized that putting this bracelet on my head would be the start of something new, I was not prepared for what happened when I put it on and began re-watching the videos. As I did, I realized I had complained earlier in the day. It was not intentional, but I did complain.

My complaint free day began at 7:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2013. One of the things I realized as I was watching one of the videos is that this goes hand-in-hand with my living the first agreement of Toltec Wisdom, to be impeccable with one’s word. Complaining can be a form of judging. As Will Bowen talked about, in one of his videos, when we complain about someone else’s behavior/performance then what we are really saying is that I am better then you are. I am not better then anybody else I am just me.

One of the other moments that made me laugh is when he was talking about becoming complaint free. He said it was perfectly ok to point out to somebody when they were complaining, but then you had to switch your bracelet to the other wrist as well because you were now complaining. Aha, another form of judgment – “I deem you are complaining and I am going to point that out to you.” LOL. Since Zoe and I are doing this together, it means that I am not only committing not to complain to anyone else, but I cannot complain to her or even tell her when I think she is complaining because then I would be complaining. Not only that I would be breaking my first agreement, which I realize I broke yesterday.

Working at home, and being by myself, more then most people I initially thought that this would be so much easier for me. Then when I really stopped and thought about it, I realized it wasn’t and easier or harder because it also means I cannot complain to myself. Whether I am with someone or not, I cannot complain. It is funny how all the things I am trying to do in my life to evolve in my own journey are coming together.

Living complaint free is going to help me become more impeccable with my word. Having to switch my complaint free bracelet from one wrist to another is going to help make me more aware of how often I am not impeccable with my word and assist me in my own journey. I have now completed the first 12 hours of my 21-day challenge and I know the best is yet to come. I am looking forward to what I learn about myself as I move through this. Let the journey continue!
