Thank you for loving me

February 22, 2014 Sharon Jacobson

Dear God,

Every morning one of the first things I do is to take time to thank you for at least five things I have been blessed with in my life. Sometimes they are not things in my life, but the absence of things in my life. When I hear of people who are struggling with and dying from addictions to drugs, or in abusive relationships, or homeless, and the list goes on, I am reminded to give thanks for all that I have not or am not experiencing in my life at this time.

One of the things I am eternally grateful for is that you love me unconditionally. You know my heart, and all the thoughts that float through my mind and you still love me unconditionally. You have loved me even when I have not always loved myself. You have loved me when I have made choices which might not have been the best for me and helped me find my way to a safe place where I could rest and heal. You have loved me unconditionally through my joys, my fears, my celebrations, and my struggles. While you may not always have liked or approved of my thoughts or choices, you have always loved me just as I am.

You have taught me how to love and live without expectations. This has not always been an easy lesson for me to learn. You have helped me to discern the difference between an agreement and an expectation. You have been patient with me as I have learned to release the expectations in my life that caused suffering. You have helped me to become better at communicating so that as I released expectations, which I had created in my own mind, I was able to consciously create agreements with others, which bring all things to the surface in a healthy manner. Thank you for always loving me without expectations. If you have an expectation of me, which I am not sure you do, it would probably be that I love others as you have loved me. This is something I try to do each day. However, I think that this is more of an agreement between us at this point, than it is an expectation.

One of the other things that I want to thank you for is how you never tell me what I should do. You have always respected me enough to make my own choices and decisions. You may have had your preference as to what choice I made, but you have never forced me to do anything. You have always allowed me to work with you to create my life and the fulfillment of my dreams and visions. You have always respected me enough to fall down, knowing that you would also assist me in getting back up and moving forward in my life.

So this morning I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for loving me, all of me, unconditionally. Your love has helped me to become more loving with others and with myself. May my understanding of your love for me continue to grow that I might be better able to radiate your love through and to others.
