No More Pollution

December 2, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

No More Pollution

So many people are concerned about climate change,
as am I.
We have done so much recently
to protect the environment,
the air,
the water,
the earth,
and so much more.
All that is important,
but how about the pollution within us?
How about the negative thoughts and energy
which pollute our mind, body and soul
with negative thoughts and energy?
Maybe we need standards to stop the toxicity
in our selves,
in our relationships,
in our homes,
our workplaces,
our schools, and
sadly even our places of worship.
What if we end this year
and begin the new one
committed to cleansing our lives
and our worlds
of toxicity
and work to end the
emotional and mental pollution in this world.

Diaballein

April 2, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

Diaballein

Crazy how one word
can make you think.
I am not even sure how I found this word
or how it found me,
but today’s word is
diaballein.
It is a word I do not like.
without even looking up the meaning,
it sounded diabolical.
In some respects it is,
it's about slander and accusing
and tearing things apart.
Diaballein
builds walls not bridges,
divides rather then unifies,
and creates tensions rather than community.

Diaballein challenges us to pick sides.
It seeks to separate

Mind and body,

Head and heart,

Secular and sacred,
and pit one against the other.
May we push back
and serve as symbols,
celebrating the wholeness of who we are,
the threads of commonality which bond us,
and live and love in ways that
build bridges not walls,
and bind us in ways that
promote, love, dignity and respect
for ourselves and each other.

I Got This

February 9, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

I Got This

It was just supposed to be routine bloodwork,
then it wasn’t.
Your severely anemic again.
All of a sudden all I was hearing
were all the things that could be wrong with me
and causing me to once again be severely anemic.
What I needed to hear
was no matter what I would be fine.
I needed the reminder that the Source
who brought me to this,
would bring me through this.
I needed the reminder that
I am an overcomer.
I knew I would need more transfusions
but what I didn’t need was to be told
I was not going to be okay.
Words are powerful
and they can help us manifest healing.
I had already seen that my body was self healing
with no pills and no transfusions.
I knew it might be a long journey,
but my body could and would heal.
I am an overcomer,
so please don’t tell me I’m not,
remind me that I am.
Prop me up with positives,
not negatives
and remind me
the healing is happening.
Feed me with optimism
because the reality is
one way or the other,
no matter what I am going through,
I will be fine.

Learning to Listen

November 27, 2023 Sharon Jacobson

Learning to Listen

So often, we talk about the
mind, body, soul connection
and we talk about listening to
the thoughts which float through our mind
and the voice that whispers to our soul,
but do we listen to our bodies
and the lessons it is trying to teach us.
Do we listen to how our body changes
from comfortable to warm or cold?
Do we feel the muscles tense and relax?
Do we recognize how what we are
thinking and feeling expresses itself
like waves in an ocean.
Our bodies teach us
how to self express.
dance,
move,
mourn,
make love,
and ride the waves.
Our bodies teach us to heal
and fight for us
to stay strong
as we go through
the changes of life.
As we listen to our mind and our soul,
may we listen to our body
and the lessons it is teaching.

Compliments, Criticism, and Encouragement

January 9, 2023 Sharon Jacobson

Compliments, Criticism, and Encouragement

A spiritual director once taught me
to listen to how my body responds
to compliments and criticisms.
I became aware that it was not just my heart
that responded,
but my whole being.
Criticisms, especially when not constructive,
make my body tighten, cringe, and
want to become invisible.
Compliments, even criticisms when presented with love,
make my body relax and loosen
and sometimes feel like it is floating.
However, what I realized one day was that it was
words of encouragement
which made my body feel stronger
and more engaged
as if it were ready to take on the world.
If my body responds to the words of others,
how does it respond to my own thoughts and words.
How does it respond to my compliments, criticisms and words of encouragement?
How does your body respond?
What if we change the way we spoke to ourselves and others,
to all of humanity,
including animals and nature?
Healing ourselves and others,
begins by changing the way we think,
the words we speak,
and the manner in which we speak them.
May we be aware of the power we possess
to heal and harm
through out compliments, criticisms and words of encouragment

Ever-changing Landscape

August 19, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

When I think about traveling,
I think about planes, trains, and automobiles.
I think about leaving and arriving.
I think about new people, places and things.
I do not think about staying still.

Life, however, is an ever-changing landscape.
Nothing in our lives is exactly the same.
It is, as Alice Walker would say,
never the same river twice.
Our bodies,
our minds,
our souls,
the air we breathe,
nothing is ever the same,
we are and live in
an ever-changing landscape.

We travel through the seasons,
through the years of our life,
through the ups and downs,
through the losses and celebrations,
through changes in jobs,
relationships, and so much more.

We live in a constant state of travel,
earning frequent flyer miles of
experience and wisdom as we
travel through the
ever-changing landscape of life.

Open or Closed

October 4, 2016 Sharon Jacobson

This month, is all about opening ourselves up to the spiritual practice of openness. I would like to say that I am an open person, but the more I have been reflecting on openness, the more I have come to realize that every moment of my life I am either opening or closing something. Every moment that I am waiting on something to happen, I am closing myself off to what is happening in that moment. When I am giving what I most desire to give, when I am living from the depth of my being, then I am opening myself up the entire moment. I cannot be open to receiving what I am desiring when I am closed to it’s arrival. Nothing in life can be open and closed at the same time.

There was a song I used to listen to in the 70’s by Meg Christian. She would talk about how we so often spend time waiting for X to happen thinking that was going to make us ok. When we are waiting for X to happen for us to be happy, we have actually closed ourselves up to the happiness we could be experiencing in this very moment. How often do we forget that every moment is the most important moment in our lives? Are we spending that moment open and loving or closed and hanging a sign that says not accepting deliveries? Love and joy cannot be brought into our lives when we are not open to experiencing them.

T is for Toxins

April 16, 2013 Sharon Jacobson
toxins.jpg

There are two sources of spiritual toxins in our lives: internal and external. It is easy to understand how internal toxic cleanup is a process. We can understand that stalking, as I wrote about last week, is a process whereby our inner jaguar preys out the internal toxins, or parasites as don Miguel Ruiz would refer to them, and ruthlessly remove them. We then go back and seek to understand the roots of how that toxin came in and remove our attachment to it.
