Love You

September 2, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

Love You

I remember hearing this growing up
“As I have loved you, love one another.”
It taught me to love others
and to express that love to them.
What it did not always teach me was to love myself.
I had to ask if
I knew how to love myself?
Do I treat myself kindly?
Do I eat healthy?
Am I drinking enough water?
Am I taking enough time to rest?
Do I fill my life with peace, joy and happiness?
Am I better to others
then I am to myself or
am as kind to myself as I am to others.
Am I as generous with myself as I am to others.
Do I listen as intently to myself
as I do to others?
Learning to love myself,
in a healthy way,
has taught me
I must keep my cup full so that it can run over.
What is in my cup is for me.
it is what keeps me feeling loved.
What runneth over is what I give to others
because I am abundantly blessed.
That abundance comes so that I feel loved
and can share the abundance of God’s love
for me with others.
This unconditional sharing
starts with us learning to
love ourselves.

Examining My Heart

July 19, 2022 Sharon Jacobson

Examining My Heart

There are some tests
my cardiologist cannot do.
Only I can pay attention to
the state of my heart.
My doctor can listen to my pulse,
my heartbeat,
and other physical functioning, but
it cannot tell me how open my heart
is to giving or receiving.
Only I know how it feels when I give unto others
or allow them to give unto me.
This is a heartbeat no one else can
examine or pay attention to but me.
Only I know what I am open to giving
and what I am not.
Only the Ultimate and I know
where my heart is closed to others,
where it is hardened,
and where it needs to experience
the loving massage of the one
whose love beats through me daily.
I would love to say my heart is in great condition,
but because I have examined it,
I know where it needs healing.
The Ultimate can perform
the healing my heart needs
so I may continue to grow
in my ability to give from my heart
and be open to receiving from others.
To maintain this, however,
I must continue to examine my heart.

Generosity

July 6, 2020 Sharon Jacobson

It wasn’t anything big,
the gift I was given,
but I know it came from her heart.
There is something
about generosity
which
can open you up
regardless of whether you are
the giver or the one giving.
She shared something I know she treasured
with me.
It was one of those pastries
only her mom knew how to make.
I remember how much she loved them
and yet she shared one with me
and that made me feel so loved.
It was more than a pastry,
it was a gift from her heart.

When I share with others
I think of how I felt
and how it opened me up
and pray it will do the same for others.
Generosity
is not only about what we give to others,
but the gift that comes back to us
in the process.

Generosity

April 1, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

We all give,
but some of us are
Generous.
We share our gifts
with others
in a way that transcends
what is expected.

This sharing of one’s gifts
is an act of generosity.
It is a way of sharing their
blessings with others.
It is a way
of practicing generosity

So what happens when
we say no.
When we say no,
we are blocking their blessings.
we are denying others the
opportunity to practice generosity

Why would we deny others
the opportunity to be generous
to share their blessings.
Do we realize that when we say no
that this is what we are doing.
What if we said yes to the invitation
to gather with friends
even if we want to say no.
What if our saying yes not only
blessed us but allowed others
to practice generosity

Open

open hands.jpg

I can’t shake your hand,
when it is in a fist.
I can’t hug you,
when your arms are not open.
I can’t love you,
when your heart is closed.
Nor can you love me
when I am not open.

May we open our hearts,
our minds, and
our souls
to being loved.
May we open our fists
to shake hands.
May we open ourselves
to receiving a hug. May we open ourselves
to the generosity and support
of others.
