Cleaning Windows

December 25, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

Cleaning Windows

Sometimes I hear the words of this song
floating through my head
reminding me that
I can see clearly now
the rain is gone.
My Bubby would tell me
Rain is God washing the world
so I could see clearly.
Sometimes I feel like that is what
I do in life.
I wonder if perhaps I am
a janitor for spirit
as others are a janitor for me.
Are we wiping the windows of our worlds
and of others
so we can see clearly
and help others see clearly
for themselves.
Are we working together
to help give ourselves and others
a clearer vision
so we can see all the obstacles
in our way.

Seeing it

February 27, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

Seeing It

How do you do it?, he asked.
Do what?, I asked.
See the presence of Spirit in everything.
What I wanted to ask was
what keeps you from seeing it.
Seeing the gifts, blessings and opportunities
is something my Bubby taught me to do decades ago.
Seeing it,
was like breathing.
Spirit is everywhere and in everything.
If you look for its presence
you will see it.
Sometimes you will find it that which brings you joy,
other times in the challenging times.
You will see the Divine in those you like and love
and those you do not.
You will feel it in the news which brings you joy
and that which makes you ask why and wonder.
Bubby taught me to see the Ultimate
with each of my senses
and to keep looking
deeper and deeper
until I saw the gift.
She taught me to see the blessings
in even the smallest of cookie crumbs,
especially when we would combine them
to make the base of a cheesecake.
Together those crumbs achieved more
then anyone of them could alone.
It enabled me to see it.
Right now I am seeing it
and looking for it
and in some situations seeking it
until I am seeing it
and hoping you are able to see it too.

Finding Wisdom

August 8, 2022 Sharon Jacobson

Finding Wisdom

I remember when I was young
there would be these picture puzzles
where you had to find certain things.
A friend of mine still plays them,
but now on their computer,
where they look for hidden objects
and try to find them in a certain amount of time.
Isn’t that how many of life’s wisdoms come to us,
as objects hidden right in front of us,
waiting for us to discover it.
Wisdom rarely just walks up to us and says
here i am,
your wisdom for the day,
rather we receive it
in the most unexpected of ways
and places
and the most unexpected of people.

The Hands of God

July 11, 2022 Sharon Jacobson

The Hands of God

A friend of mine once told me that he wished he could see the presence of God in his life, like I do. Honestly, it is not something I work at. It just seems so visible. Like today. Yestrday I put an ad on Facebook Marketplace for 2 pieces of furniture we were just going to give away, but decided I would ask for a small amount of money to donate to Roc the Dogs Rescue, which my spiritual daughter operates. That is when the magic happened.

The two people taking the furniture are connected to me without my even knowing it. The first person has a daughter who was almost a student in my class.  She signed up once and then dropped. The second person was the one that has had me on a journey all day. I gave her the address so she could pick up the entertainment stand this week and she said I know that street, I used to live there. Not only did she live on the street, but she was the one we bought the house from 17 years ago. I mentioned it to my neighbor who mentioned another person, whose name I had seen but I did not know. This person was the sister in law of the person we bought the house from and she had bought it from her.

Now the story should end there, but it doesn’t. In talking with one of my neighbors who has long moved away, she said that before her was a couple she and her husband were very close to and had moved to Arizona. Before that was an elderly woman and her daughter who had moved to Vancouver.  In one day, I came to know everyone who has ever called our home theirs.

However, the journey does not end there. I found the couple in Arizona and am waiting to hear back from them and doubt that I will find the woman in Vancouver. I kept thinking that this is it, I am talking with my students about genealogy and I get to construct my home’s genealogy. Not the end.

Every family who has ever lived here has been of service.  This truly is God’s house. I am living on holy ground. I have to confirm about the elderly woman, but I heard she was a retired nurse. The man who moved to Arizona is a pastor, the two women who lived here before me are both in health care and we too are of service. That we found each other is a miracle in itself, but that we all have hearts of servants is yet another. How can I not see the hands of the Ultimate one in all of this.

WOW!  What an awesome day!

Namaste

October 7, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

Namaste
I salute the God in you.
I bow before you
with my hands folded
as if in prayer.
I recognize that meeting you
is meeting the God in you.
I recognize that you meeting me
is meeting the God in me.
So we bow in prayer
and give thanks
for the opportunity
to meet God
in each other.
Namaste.

Start at Home

https://gentwenty.com/better-lasting-change-starts-within/

Change the world,
start at home
that is what HGTV says.
This reminds me
to see myself
to understand myself
to get in touch with my own
deep and innermost mysteries

How can I begin to understand
the one I call the Ultimate
if I have not yet opened myself
to seeing the invisible in myself,
or the mysteries within myself

The journey to the
deeper mysteries of the Divine
begin with me exploring
the mysteries within myself.
If I want to connect on a deeper level

With the divine,
I must remember the wisdom
of HGTV and start at home.

Look at the View

January 20, 2015 Sharon Jacobson

Anna Quindlen in her book, A Short Guide to a Happy Life, wrote, “He stared out at the ocean and said, "Look at the view, young lady. Look at the view."

And every day, in some little way, I try to do what he said. I try to look at the view. That's all. Words of wisdom from a man with not a dime in his pocket, no place to go, nowhere to be. Look at the view. When I do what he said, I am never disappointed.”

How often do we take the time in our lives to look at the view? How often do we take the time to really see what is right in front of us. I know I am so often guilty in my own life of not seeing the view. Sometimes I focus on all the things that I have yet to accomplish today that I forget to take the time to look at the view. I have been trying this month to take my own challenge to notice something new every day.
