It’s Not Just Me

It’s Not Just Me

I have my moments
when I think it’s all about me,
but the reality is that
it’s not just about me.
We are like all the ingredients in a dish.
Each one of us brings
a taste,
a texture,
a meaning
to the dish.
Individually we are good,
but together,
we are amazing.
I try to remember how
what I say and do
is not just about me
but affects others.
I am not always successful,
but I do try to remember
to radiate love,
light,
and positive energy
to all because
it is not all about me,
it’s about us.

We Get By

October 27, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

We get by
with a little help
from our friends,
from our spiritual community
and from those who journey with us.

We get by because they
inspire us,

encourage us,
challenge us,
laugh with us,
and love us unconditionally
for who we are in this moment.

We get by
because of this unconditional acceptance.
We get by because
they help us laugh at ourselves.
We get by because
they help us heal.
We get by because
it is easier then being
on this journey alone.

Mending

April 27, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

I have to begin by owning my mistakes.
I cannot mend,
what I cannot own.
I cannot fix,
what I do not admit I damaged.

Mending the world
begins with me.
If I am living at peace in my soul
then my home is
When my relationship is joyous,
we share that with the world
When we share our joy
we make our community better,
which makes our region better,
which makes our state better
which makes our country better
which makes the world better.

My being mindful about mending
that which I need to mend
is about me making this world a better place.
it is about me helping to mend
the world.

What if each day we fixed our mistakes
before we went to bed.
What if we fixed things
as they happened,
instead of letting them build.
What if we focused on
mending
our lives,
and the world

The Welcome Table

July 29, 2017 Sharon Jacobson

I have been spending so much time thinking through my feelings about community. I know I like the idea of being part of a community, however, I grapple with the challenges of being a part of one. On the one hand, I appreciate the feeling of belong and being a part of something bigger then myself. On the other hand, I hate the feeling of never quite fitting in or living up to the communal expectations. It is feeling like you fit in when so often you feel like a round peg trying to fit into a square hole or vice versa.

I have spent most of my life feeling like I never quite fit in. The one place I feel as if I fit is in my relationship with you. It is in my relationship with you that I experience that unconditional love and acceptance. Perhaps that is because you never ask me to leave a part of me at the door. I have always known that you love for me is unconditional.

Close your eyes and ___________

October 11, 2013 Sharon Jacobson
rose quartz.jpg

Wednesday was the 3rd of what will now be four lessons for Reiki 1. So after a celebratory birthday lunch for my teacher (I made “fried” chicken, collard greens, “mac” and cheese, and biscuits), we began our lesson. After blessing and sanctifying the space, she said close your eyes and using your left hand (not my dominant hand), hover your hand over this deck of Zen cards and pick three.  The three that I picked were Compassion, Wisdom, and Community. We laughed and she said yes those are you; read the backs if you would like.
