Smiling

February 15, 2021 Sharon Jacobson

Smiling

We all have those days
when our smiles are not authentic.
Those days where we know
we are pasting them on,
thinking nobody can see the fakeness,
but they can.
This morning for me was one of them.
I had my reasons,
for not wanting to smile
regardless of how hard I tried.
Rather then focus on what I was grieving,
I came back to my basics
and began giving thanks
and moving my heart from a space of sadness
to a place of gratitude.
As my heart changed,
so did my ability to smile.
If I want my smile to be authentic,
I have to move myself to a space
where the positive emotions and attitude,
as my mother would say,
turn my frown upside down.
I know when my smile is authentic
because if feels good,
is filled with hope,
love,
light,
and positive energy.
Smiling can change the attitude
of the world
when it comes from your heart.

Mirrors

Mirrors

I have a love hate relationship with mirrors.
I love when they reflect
what I want to see.
I hate them when they reflect
what I dislike in myself.
Mirrors are not always
those pieces of reflective glass.
Sometimes they are people,
like the ones who get on your last nerve.
The one’s who have qualities and characteristics
which you want to be critical of.
Sometimes when I am ready to
push myself to that next level
I make a list of people and what
they do that grates on me.
then I make it about me and
I cringe when I see
how what I dislike about others,
at least most of the time,
is something I need to work on
myself.
It’s easier to see the parts of me I love
reflected in others,
than the qualities I don’t
mirrored back to me.
At the same time, I am grateful
for my mirrors
because they help me grow and evolve
and become the best me I can be.

Beauty

November 30, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

Beauty, they  say
is in the eye of the beholder
But it is so much more.
Beauty is like a food.
It fills one’s spirit.
It helps us see things,
feel things,
understand things,
see things,
and experience things
in a way that
surpasses understanding.

Beauty
is healing.
nurturing,
transformative,
and evidence of the
Divine.

Beauty is
about you and me
and the way we see
ourselves and each other.
When we look for it,
we will see it all around us.
The more we look for it
the more it will surround us.

Beauty
will keep you warm on cold winter days
cool in the summers,
birthing newness in the spring,
and being colorful and transforming
in the fall.
Beauty is
what you as an artist
create in yourself
with every stroke of your brush.
