Pleasure

March 22, 2024 Sharon Jacobson

Pleasure

Pleasure,
it is something I am worth experiencing.
Pleasure,
is something I once felt unworthy of,
but I am.
Pleasure
is like a Sabbath moment.
It is time to be quiet,
to still my soul,
and enter into quiet time with the Ultimate.
Pleasure
is what prepares me for what is not.
It prepares me for the challenging times with the world.
Pleasure,
is a time to reflect and relax.
Pleasure
is something I need to practice,
and give myself that time to experience it all,
including pleasure.

My Mirrors

September 23, 2022 Sharon Jacobson

My Mirrors

I used to think that mirrors were these
framed pieces of glass
that reflected my own image back to me.
Then I started looking at people
I did not like
and who I allowed to get on my last nerve.
They were a reflection to me
of the part of me
I did not like in myself.
They were not made of glass,
but they still make me stop
and look at myself.
They are the ones who make me
reflect and grow.
I keep looking at them
until what I see
no longer makes me cringe,
because I have changed.
I am grateful for all the mirrors in my life,
those who reflect
what I like in myself
and those
who do not.
I need both
if I am going to continue to grow.

I am Beautiful

September 2, 2022 Sharon Jacobson

I am Beautiful

I was tired and stressed
and looking at myself on my zoom screen
and all I could see was this tired,
fat, person
with dark circles under their eyes
and all the physical imperfections
that have been pointed out to me over time.
Then I heard this voice,
which reduced me to tears,
saying you are my child
and you are beautiful.
You are my child
who is loving and kind,
thoughtful and considerate.
You are my child.
That, in and of itself,
makes you beautiful

So stop putting us down.
You are a reflection of me.
Honor us both and
remember you are beautiful.

Mirrors

December 11, 2020 Sharon Jacobson

Mirrors

I have a love hate relationship with mirrors.
I love when they reflect
what I want to see.
I hate them when they reflect
what I dislike in myself.
Mirrors are not always
those pieces of reflective glass.
Sometimes they are people,
like the ones who get on your last nerve.
The one’s who have qualities and characteristics
which you want to be critical of.
Sometimes when I am ready to
push myself to that next level
I make a list of people and what
they do that grates on me.
then I make it about me and
I cringe when I see
how what I dislike about others,
at least most of the time,
is something I need to work on
myself.
It’s easier to see the parts of me I love
reflected in others,
than the qualities I don’t
mirrored back to me.
At the same time, I am grateful
for my mirrors
because they help me grow and evolve
and become the best me I can be.

The Mirror

November 15, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

I look in the mirror
and sometimes I love
what I see and
there are other times
I don’t
However, there has never been
a time when I hated
what I saw so much
that I could slash my wrist
or poison myself
or want to leave this world behind.

When I look in the mirror
what I see is a reflection
of the Divine,
the one who created me,
the one who designed me
the one who tells me
you are beautiful just as you are.

When I look in the mirror
what I see is a reflection
of the Divine
of the one who is love,
is about healing
is about grace
is about wisdom and
is about listening.

When I look in the mirror
I pray for those who
do not see what I see
or feel what I feel.
I pray for those who see
something so painful
that leaving feels better
than staying

When I look in the mirror,
I remember to pray
for those
I know,
those I do not,
those who are whole and
those who are hurting,
those who have asked
for prayer
and those who have not
because we are all
a reflection
of the Divine

If it were you

October 4, 2019 Sharon Jacobson

Multiple people can do the same thing,
say the same thing,
seem to have the same attitude, or
act in the same way, yet
we treat them different
dependent on who they are.
Do we allow a behavior to trigger
the same emotion
regardless of who it is?

Am I as irritated by the
slow driver who is a stranger
as I am by the slow driver who
I know is my sibling?
Does my knowing you mean
I average things out over time
vs judging based on one experience.
Do we judge others
by the one thing we know they did
while judging others
by the average of our experiences?

We are all the masked singer for someone.
for someone,
we are the one who irritated them,
got on their last nerve,
drove too slow,
cut them off,
or engaged in whatever it was that
made you want to cuss them out
until we were unmasked
and you realized who it was.
Who are you the masked singer for?
What if it were you?
